Who We Are

  • Bond-Based Dog Training is a relationship-centered approach that focuses on strengthening the emotional connection between dog and handler as the foundation for learning. Instead of prioritizing commands, compliance, or correction, this method builds trust, communication, and mutual understanding first. When a dog feels safe, connected, and understood, learning can be natural and lasting.

This philosophy is based on our hypothesis:
Dogs who experience higher-quality bonds with their handlers, characterized by trust, emotional safety, and consistent communication, will demonstrate faster learning, greater behavioral reliability, and reduced stress compared to dogs trained using compliance or correction-focused methods.

Traditional training models often treat behavior as something to control. Bond-Based Dog Training treats behavior as communication. By teaching handlers how to build meaningful connections, emotional safety, and clear communication with their dogs, training shifts from “getting obedience” to creating cooperation.

    1. Connection Before Control – Training is built on trust and partnership.

    2. Steady, Sustainable Growth – No rushing, no shortcuts.

    3. Clarity & Communication – Dogs succeed when expectations are clear.

    4. Respect for the Individual Dog – Temperament, history, and pace matter.

  • Ivy Vine Canine began with a simple truth: the most meaningful growth takes time.

Devin has loved dogs for as long as she can remember, always drawn to the process of training and the connection it creates. In early adulthood, after being diagnosed with a chronic illness, her path shifted and led her to Ivy, her service dog. What started as a necessity quickly became something much deeper. Through working with Ivy, Devin experienced firsthand how powerful the bond between a dog and their handler can be, built on trust, communication, and steady, intentional growth.

Ivy didn’t just change Devin’s day-to-day life, she reshaped her purpose. Training became more than a passion; it became a way to help others build the same kind of partnership and understanding she found with her own dog.

That’s where Ivy Vine Canine took root.

Inspired by the way ivy grows, slowly, steadily, and with strong foundations, our approach centers on patience, consistency, and thoughtful guidance. We believe great behavior doesn’t happen overnight. It’s cultivated over time. By meeting each dog where they are, we focus on building confidence, clarity, and connection that lasts far beyond the training session.
